Can You Count Cards In Online Blackjack?
Card counting requires information about undealt cards to persist between rounds. It usually cannot work in an RNG game that independently randomizes every hand; a streamed live-dealer shoe may be countable in principle, but practical conditions must be verified.
What counting needs
A running count summarizes cards already observed. In a persistent finite shoe, that information changes the estimated composition of the cards that remain. Multiple-deck balanced systems generally also require a true-count conversion.
If the deck is independently randomized before every round, the previous round provides no useful composition information for the next one. Resetting the running count is therefore part of the model, not a casino trick that counting can overcome.
RNG blackjack
Read the help screen and technical description. Many RNG products draw each round from a freshly randomized virtual shoe or equivalent independent state. Traditional cross-round counting has no target in that design.
Basic strategy still matters because player decisions affect expected return under the published rules. Verify the payout and rules; an RNG does not compensate for 6:5 blackjack or restrictive doubling.
Streamed live-dealer blackjack
A streamed table may use physical cards from a finite shoe, allowing composition to persist across rounds. That makes counting possible in theory, not automatically useful.
Practical obstacles include shallow penetration, frequent shuffles, shared tables, decision latency, limits, unavailable mid-shoe entry and provider procedures. Measure the actual shoe rather than infer conditions from the video.
Continuous shufflers and prerecorded presentation
A physical continuous shuffling machine can prevent a stable undealt shoe from developing. Prerecorded dealer imagery may merely present software outcomes. Identify the mechanism before deciding whether a count has meaning.
One count, two different next-round situations
Consider a no-money six-deck Hi-Lo exercise. You have tracked every exposed card from the beginning, the running count is +8, and exactly four decks remain. The unrounded true count is +8 ÷ 4 = +2. That number describes the remaining shoe only if the observed cards stay out of play.

A positive count is not a promise of profit or an instruction to raise a wager. The exact rules, chosen system, index convention, available actions and practical conditions still matter. This example illustrates the information reset, not a recommended betting schedule.
What if the stream hides a card?
Do not invent its rank from the result of a hand. A card that leaves the shoe changes its composition even when you cannot see it, but you cannot assign a known Hi-Lo tag without knowing its rank. Late entry, interruptions and obscured cards leave gaps in what you observed. Seeing a shoe continue does not mean you possess a complete count.
In practice, return to a fresh no-money shoe and record intermediate checkpoints. A correct final total can hide two errors that cancel each other. - Learn rule-matched basic strategy without wagering.
