Is Blackjack Becoming Harder to Beat in Nevada?
Historical analysis: May 2016–April 2017. Nevada’s blackjack revenue rose during this period, but revenue alone cannot tell us whether a particular table became harder to beat. The figures below correct an earlier comparison that mixed annual blackjack revenue with monthly baccarat revenue.
Use this as a lesson in reading gaming statistics, not as a current survey of Nevada table conditions.
Blackjack versus baccarat: compare the same period
The Nevada Gaming Control Board’s April 2017 revenue report, statewide all nonrestricted locations, reports the following casino win amounts. Amounts here are converted from the report’s thousands of dollars to millions; baccarat excludes the separately listed mini-baccarat category.

The $79.196 million baccarat number is one month, not the corresponding full year. Neither the growth rate nor the report’s win percentage is the basic-strategy house edge per initial wager.
What actually changes blackjack difficulty?
A revenue increase can reflect wagering volume, bet sizes, the mix of games and players, or actual results. It does not isolate rule changes or skill. Nor does an increase prove that rules stayed unchanged or that more people played.
Compare the actual blackjack payout, dealer soft-17 rule, deck count, doubling, splitting, surrender and dealer-blackjack procedure. For counting, also examine penetration, shuffling, table limits and entry restrictions. A 3:2 table and a 6:5 table can exist within the same market while offering different returns.
Online access is a separate legal question
Do not treat Nevada and New Jersey as interchangeable online-casino markets. Nevada’s Regulation 5A.140(1)(a), February 2026 limits the relevant interactive wagers to poker and approved derivatives. It does not authorize ordinary online banking blackjack merely because someone lives in Nevada.
A land-based casino’s license, an accessible website or a supported payment method does not establish permission to play online from a particular location. Check the current regulator and the exact product. Online availability does not by itself change the rules of a physical table.

Separate house edge from casino hold
House edge is an expected loss rate on a specified wagering basis under specified play. Reported casino win is an observed aggregate result; published hold measures may use a different denominator.
Record conditions rather than assuming a trend
To establish that games became less favorable, compare dated observations of equivalent tables and rules. This historical report alone is insufficient.
