Match the chart to the table. Do not use this PDF unchanged for H17, 6:5, no-DAS, no-peek/European hole-card, single-deck, Free Bet, Spanish 21, or another variant. Those rules can change strategy decisions and expected cost.

How to read the cheat sheet
- Find the dealer’s upcard. Columns run from 2 through ace.
- Classify your hand. Use the pairs table first, then soft totals, then hard totals.
- Follow the action code. A fallback after a slash applies when the preferred action is unavailable.

A soft hand contains an ace currently counted as 11. A hard total has no ace counted as 11. The hard-16 row excludes 8,8 because the pair table takes priority and says to split.
Why this sheet replaced the old PDF
The previous 2020 CountingEdge PDF did not state its ruleset and incorrectly showed doubles for soft 20 and soft 19 against several dealer upcards. It has been withdrawn from this page rather than silently relabeled.
The replacement was generated as searchable text, checked visually after rendering, and compared against the current Wizard of Odds rules-based strategy calculator and surrender tables. Its assumptions appear in the header and on this page. The source file remains versioned so corrections can be documented.
What basic strategy does—and does not do
Basic strategy selects the action with the highest expected value, or lowest expected loss, for the stated rules and information available. It does not predict the next card, recover losses, identify a winning streak, or create a player edge by itself.
Even perfect decisions can lose over a session. The value of the chart is repeatable decision quality: it replaces hunches, fear, and outcome-based changes with a verified rule-specific choice.

Five common chart mistakes
- Ignoring the rule label. An S17 chart is not automatically correct at H17.
- Treating pairs as hard totals first. Check the pairs section before combining the cards.
- Misclassifying an ace. A hand can change from soft to hard after a hit.
- Forgetting the fallback. D/H and D/S do not mean double is mandatory when the table forbids it.
- Changing strategy after wins or losses. Previous outcomes do not rewrite the current decision.
Can you use a cheat sheet at a casino?
Property policies vary. A printed basic-strategy card is commonly treated differently from an electronic device, but do not assume permission. Ask the dealer or floor supervisor before using a chart and follow instructions about where it may be placed. Never use a hidden device, prohibited software, or any tool that violates local law or house rules.
Online, read the operator’s current terms and use only a legal operator for your physical location. A chart does not make an unlicensed site safe and does not justify bypassing identity, geolocation, or account controls.
How to practice with the sheet
- Print the PDF in landscape orientation at “fit to page.”
- Practice without money and classify each hand before looking up the action.
- Mark errors by category: pair, soft, hard, surrender, or fallback.
- Repeat only the weak rows until responses are automatic.
- Test again without the chart, then keep it available for verification rather than guessing.
Accuracy comes before speed. Real-money play is not practice, and a low minimum still creates gambling loss.

Is this blackjack cheat sheet free?

Does this chart work for every blackjack game?
No. It is for 4–8 deck, S17, DAS, late-surrender, peek games paying 3:2. Use a matching chart when rules differ.
Why does the chart say D/H or D/S?
The first letter is the preferred action. The second tells you what to do when doubling is not allowed: hit or stand.
Should I ever take insurance?
Not under this basic-strategy chart. Insurance is a separate wager. Card counters may evaluate it using composition information, which is outside basic strategy.
Does using the chart guarantee a win?
No. It reduces decision error under the stated rules. Blackjack outcomes remain volatile and the standard game normally retains a house edge.
