Steve Forte

Steve Forte is an author and consultant associated with casino game protection, gambling sleight of hand and card-handling research. His documented publications include Read the Dealer, Casino Game Protection, Poker Protection and Gambling Sleight of Hand. This profile does not treat promotional claims, alleged client lists or unaudited money figures as established fact.

Documented work

Forte’s official author biography says that he worked in casino dealing and management, later formed International Gaming Specialists and lectured on game protection. It also credits him as a technical consultant on the films Rounders and Casino. These are career credits, not proof that every anecdote repeated about him is accurate.

The same biography lists Read the Dealer (1986), Casino Game Protection (2004), Poker Protection (2006), Gambling Sleight of Hand (2020), Gambling Collectibles (2022) and The Special Reports (2024). Publication dates help readers distinguish older blackjack observations from later research.

Game protection and advantage play are different

Game protection concerns errors, theft, collusion, marked cards, manipulated equipment and other threats to a game. Advantage play is a broader category and can include lawful use of information or rules without altering equipment or misrepresenting a wager. The legal and operator response depends on the conduct and jurisdiction.

Card counting is not the same act as card manipulation or using a prohibited device. A casino may also have exclusion rights that vary by jurisdiction. Do not turn a general biography into universal legal advice.

Current-career wording

Forte’s official biography says he has been retired for many years from travel-intensive consulting, while continuing selected consultation. It would therefore be inaccurate to describe him without qualification as currently operating the same full-time business or serving named casino clients.

How to evaluate the books

  • Identify the edition and publication date.
  • Separate observational material from claims that require controlled evidence.
  • Do not use game-protection demonstrations to justify cheating or prohibited devices.
  • Check current blackjack rules and local law independently.
  • Treat income, winnings and unnamed-client claims as unverified unless supported by auditable records.
